Rescued After 5 Years: Dog’s Life Transformed By Kind Strangers
One of the best things about dogs is that they can bring love and companionship to anyone.
Unfortunately, this also means some dogs suffer from neglect or mistreatment by their owners. For example, many guard dogs are left chained outside with minimal care.
This story is about a dog who spent five difficult years confined to a small, bleak yard.

Mandy and her husband were visiting a neighbor when they noticed a dog chained up in a yard nearby. The dog looked miserable, and the couple knew they had to help.
The neighbors told them the dog had been chained there for five years. The yard was in terrible condition, and the dog seemed so defeated that he didn’t even react to Mandy and her husband being there.
Determined to help, they took the dog for a short walk before loading him into their truck to get him the medical care he desperately needed.
“He looked completely defeated. My husband couldn’t get that eye contact out of his head,” Mandy later said to The Dodo.

A New Beginning
During the car ride, the dog appeared to enjoy himself, likely because it was his first time seeing the world outside of his tiny yard.
Once they got him home, his mood changed noticeably. He seemed much happier now that he was out of that awful situation.

When they brought him to a vet clinic in Texas, they found out he was severely heartworm positive, which would require a long and costly treatment.
Mandy shared his story online, and it quickly went viral. Thanks to the overwhelming support, they were able to raise the money needed for his treatment.
After the treatment, the dog was kept in an office because Mandy and her husband thought he wasn’t ready to meet their other dogs just yet. However, he soon proved them wrong by sneaking out and meeting the other dogs on his own.

His gentle nature surprised everyone, showing that all he wanted was a chance to share his love. Over time, his attitude improved greatly, showing just how much a little care and love can do for a dog.
“We did find a couple of homes for him, but we just kept feeling like he’s our dog whether we planned to have another dog or not,” Mandy said.
Whether or not he finds a new home, Mandy believes he is meant to stay with their family, and they will keep him no matter what.
