Lonely Pup Watches Fellow Dogs Get Adopted While He Waits In His Kennel

Nicholas, a sweet shelter pup, eagerly stood by his kennel door every time visitors entered the shelter, hoping to get adopted.

As time passed, he began to lose hope, but then something amazing happened.

Nicholas Longed For A Home

When Nicholas was taken in by Orange County Animal Services in Orlando, Florida, he was initially a frightened and timid puppy.

Over time, he grew comfortable and became affectionate with the shelter staff and volunteers.

Whenever potential adopters came by, he would wag his tail excitedly, trying to catch their attention. Despite his efforts, days turned into weeks, and nobody seemed to notice him.

He watched many of his fellow residents leave the shelter with new families, and disappointment began to set in. He started losing hope of ever finding his forever home.

He Was Constantly Overlooked

The shelter staff was heartbroken seeing Nicholas constantly overlooked. People tended to prefer smaller dogs, leaving Nicholas waiting.

Although volunteers took him for daily walks, it wasn’t enough. He needed more time to play and interact with people.

“We knew what kind of dog he was, we knew he was amazing. He’s one of those dogs that just likes people. He likes attention. He wants to snuggle. He wants to be on your lap,” said Bryant from Orange County Animal Services.

A Temporary Setback

Despite being the longest shelter resident, Nicholas never became bitter. He cherished every opportunity to interact with his human friends, showing his appreciation for their friendship.

The shelter staff loved him dearly and rooted for him to find the home he longed for. They shared his story on social media and local news, but his situation remained the same.

In a final effort, the shelter organized an event called Pick-Nick Saturday, hoping someone would come and pick Nick. A week before the event, a woman visited and fell in love with Nicholas.

“She just genuinely came in and fell in love with the dog organically. She met him and she liked him and she couldn’t stop thinking about him,” Bryant said.

Although Nicholas was overjoyed to have found a home, his new mom couldn’t spend enough time with him to help him adjust.

Left alone, Nicholas barked more than usual, leading to complaints from neighbors. Sadly, his mom had to return him to the shelter.

He Finally Met His Person

Back at the shelter, Nicholas’s human friends were sad to see him return, but he was thrilled to reunite with them. They continued to post about Nicholas on social media, determined to find him a home.

On April 29th, 2023, Orange County Animal Services shared the joyous news that Nicholas had found his forever home. While emotional saying goodbye, the staff was happy to see Nicholas leave with his new family.

Nicholas’s new dad came to take him home. The charming dog wagged his tail and, with a wide grin, hopped into the car. His family promised to love him forever and never give him up.

Finally, Nicholas found the happiness and love he had searched for so long. This sweet dog deserved his happy ending.
