Shelter Pup Loses Spirit After Over 100 Days Of Waiting To Be Adopted

Always known for her smiles and cuddles, Bella was the epitome of a friendly and enthusiastic shelter dog. But destiny had an unexpected twist in store for her.

Instead of quickly finding a forever home, Bella endured over 100 days waiting to be adopted.

Those long days and nights in a small cage turned into her worst nightmare, as she soon became known as the dog no one wanted. For a spirited dog like Bella, this was a crushing label.

Bella’s Story

Bella, a three-year-old pooch, ended up at the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after her owner was forced to give her up due to a landlord’s restrictions on Bulldog breeds.

Despite the painful farewell with her beloved owner, Bella’s cheerful personality never faded. She remained a lovebug, always eager to shower anyone with affection.

“All of the staff and volunteers love her,” the HSBC team shared on TikTok.

But as the weeks turned into months, Bella’s situation took a downturn. Rather than quickly finding a new home as everyone expected, she spent over 100 days confined to her kennel.

Her Spark Started to Fade Away

After 130 days, Bella hit rock bottom.

Her once vibrant spirit began to fade, and her usual joyful demeanor disappeared. Instead of her big smile and happy tail wags, Bella showed signs of depression, lying on the floor with a vacant stare, uninterested in any activity.

“She’s starting to shut down… We’re not sure why adopters have passed her by, because Bella is so fantastic,” the HSBC team wrote.

Determined to find Bella a home, the team came up with a plan. They typed up a note detailing Bella’s situation and taped it to her kennel.

“I try to keep my spirits up but after 130 days of this lonely cage, I’m starting to think no one will ever pick me. I don’t understand. I’m potty trained, well-behaved, like most dogs, love fetch, the kiddie pool, I love the tiniest of children and big humans too,” the note read.

They also made a video and posted it on their TikTok, hoping for a miracle.

@humanebroward Losing hope 💔 Beautiful Bella is usually one of our happiest, most social dogs, but after 4 months of waiting to be adopted, she’s starting to shut-down 😔 Sadly, this 3-year-old was given up by her former owner because the landlord said NO to bulldog breeds 🥺 Now she’s wondering if she will ever find another family 💔 Bella loves getting attention from us, and she is a staff and volunteer favorite ❤️ We’re not sure why adopters have passed her by, because Bella is so fantastic! She loves children and is good with other dogs. Bella is hoping you’ll give her a second chance at love 🙏❤️ Thanks to @JRDUNN JEWELERS , Bella’s adoption fee has been sponsored ❤️ If you cannot adopt, please share for Bella 🙏 To adopt or foster Bella (A650497), please start by submitting an application online (link is in bio) and then stop by.
