Lonely Dog Found On Dirty Mattress Finally Finds His Forever Home
When Brenda, a dedicated rescuer, received a call about a dog sleeping alone on an old mattress in the woods, she knew she had to do something.
The dog, named Hondo, looked anxious and scared, so Brenda approached him with a sweet and playful tone, hoping he wouldn’t run away.
Miraculously, Hondo seemed to understand her intentions and began to follow her, eventually getting into her truck.
Arriving At The Shelter
Hondo was in terrible condition when Brenda brought him to a shelter in Oregon.
“He definitely looked like he was in a lot of pain. His skin was obviously painful. He was completely bald,” Brenda shared with The Dodo.
Despite his initial fear, Hondo began to relax and show his true personality as he received the care he desperately needed.

He had a severe case of mange, so the shelter staff provided immediate medical attention.
Before long, Hondo’s playful and loving nature started to shine through.
Awaiting Adoption In A Foster Home
Hondo spent over a month at the shelter, but no potential adopters showed interest.
Realizing he deserved a loving home, the shelter contacted the South Coast Humane Society (SCHS) in Oregon for assistance.
SCHS found Hondo a foster home the very next day. Sarah and her son, Seth, welcomed Hondo with open arms.
“I felt horrible when I saw Hondo and the condition he was in because you don’t look like that overnight. That’s years of neglect,” Sarah said.
Seth and Hondo quickly formed a close bond, and Hondo enjoyed playdates, cuddles, and soothing baths twice a week for his mange.
Finding A Forever Home
Sarah knew Hondo needed a home with either no other dogs or very submissive ones and minimal exercise requirements.
Fortunately, a loving family recognized what a good dog Hondo was and decided to make him a permanent member of their family.
Now, Hondo is finally in a loving and caring home, receiving all the love and attention he needs.
