Woman Finds Her Beloved Pup Listed For Adoption After Being Told He Would Be Put Down
Kristie Pereira was overjoyed when she adopted a sweet hound-mix puppy named Beau.
The two quickly became inseparable, sharing naps, playtime, and a deep bond.
But a few months later, everything started to change.
A Loving Start
Kristie Pereira was excited to welcome Beau into her life after adopting him from a Northern Virginia shelter.

The two quickly bonded—sharing happy days filled with cuddles and playful moments. But after a few months, Kristie noticed something was wrong.
Beau’s behavior started changing, and worried, she took him to the vet.

She was told he might have neurological problems and was given medicine.
When that didn’t help, she rushed him to an emergency vet in Maryland. There, she was told his condition was serious, and even costly tests likely wouldn’t help.
With a heavy heart, Kristie decided to surrender him to Montgomery County Animal Services for euthanasia.
The Unexpected Twist
Kristie had to say goodbye without being allowed in the room. She was heartbroken.

“I don’t think that someone that just wanted to get rid of the dog would feel anywhere close to how I’m feeling about this and how I have felt about it. Like, none of it was easy,” she later told FOX 5 Washington DC.
But what she didn’t know was that Beau wasn’t put down. Instead, the shelter discovered he had a treatable liver issue.
They cared for him and sent him back to the shelter he originally came from.
Kristie only found out when she saw a Facebook post announcing that Beau was up for adoption—alive and well.

Shocked and confused, she reached out, but the shelter’s policy doesn’t allow adopted dogs to be returned to former owners.
So even though Kristie still loved Beau deeply, she wasn’t allowed to bring him back home.
A Complicated Goodbye
The animal services said they only follow up if the owner contacts them soon after surrendering the dog.
Kristie recalled being told to do what felt right, based on the vet’s opinion. Now, she’s left with memories of Beau and a whirlwind of emotions.

“An emotional rollercoaster, it’s [been], to say the least… He was like my little baby,” Pereira shared with FOX 5 Washington DC.
