Lost and Abandoned, This Pup Found Strapped To A Tree In The Woods Is Now Ready To Start Over

A quiet walk through the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary in Connecticut turned into something unexpected when a man and his dog heard barking coming from deep in the woods.
Curious and concerned, they followed the sound—and were shocked by what they found.
Tied to a tree by his collar, a five-year-old dog sat quietly, waiting. He was all alone.
Thankfully, the man acted quickly. He gently freed the dog and brought him straight to Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) in South Windsor.
A New Name For A New Beginning
The pup had a name on his collar—Kobe—but shelter staff felt he deserved a fresh start.
So, they renamed him Obie.
From that moment on, Obie’s life began to change. The team at TRACS gave him love, care, and a safe space to heal.
They shared his story online, hoping to find someone who would give him the home he had always deserved.
And people noticed. Obie’s sweet face and calm nature quickly captured hearts.
He received his vet checkup, was treated for eye and skin irritations, got neutered, vaccinated, and even microchipped.
The staff also started training sessions to help him adjust and feel more confident, especially around people.
“He is learning manners and personal space. He is LOVING all the attention from every person that meets him.” they shared in a heartwarming update.
Obie Finds His Happy Ending
After just 60 days at the shelter—and a wave of interest from kind-hearted people across the community—Obie was adopted!
“We took extra time ensuring this is the VERY BEST fit for Obie, and they met all criteria! We set specific requirements and criteria for many dogs that come through our doors because we can not afford to fail them.” they shared on a Facebook update.
His story touched so many, and after careful screening, the perfect family stepped forward to give him the love and safety he’d been waiting for.
“We cannot thank EVERYONE enough for sharing all of Obie’s posts and calling interested in him!” the team wrote.
Obie now has a forever home where he can be cherished the way he always deserved.
Justice For Obie
Meanwhile, local police confirmed in a statement that Obie’s former owner, a 26-year-old woman, came forward and was charged with animal cruelty and illegally tethering a dog.
She was released on a $5,000 bond and is expected to appear in court.
Obie, however, isn’t looking back. With a new family by his side, the pup who was once tied to a tree is now starting a joyful new chapter filled with hope, belly rubs, and love.
