Giant Dog Missing For Weeks Goes Wild With Joy When He’s Reunited With His Dad

When Mecca’s dog disappeared, his whole world felt upside down.

He searched everywhere through the streets of New York City, hoping his furry friend would come running back into his arms.

Days passed. Then weeks. With no sign of his dog, Mecca began to fear the worst. Maybe someone had taken him. Maybe he’d never see him again.

What Mecca didn’t know was that the pup he missed so much had already been found—and was waiting for him.

A Gentle Giant In The Shelter

The team at Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) had picked up a big, sweet dog who was wandering around alone.

He didn’t have a microchip, so they had no way to trace him back to his family.

They named him Jose and were immediately charmed by his calm and gentle nature. He was quiet and a little withdrawn, but no one knew he was quietly missing someone too.

“At 135 pounds, he was an adorable, gentle giant [who] was too endearing to not share,” they said in a TikTok.

Touched by his sweetness, the shelter staff decided to post a video of him online.

They had no idea it would be the key to reuniting him with the one person he longed for most.

A Familiar Face On TikTok

Weeks had gone by with no news, and Mecca was starting to give up hope—until one day, while scrolling TikTok, he stopped in his tracks.

There he was. That big, lovable face. His dog.

Without hesitation, Mecca reached out to the shelter and told them the pup’s real name was Mecca Jr.—and that he was his.

After confirming his story with photos and videos, the shelter invited him to come as soon as he could.

Together Again

The next morning, Mecca rushed to the shelter.

As soon as the dog saw him, everything changed. His calm, quiet demeanor turned into pure joy.

“As soon as Jose saw him, he shed his gentle, aloof demeanor, revealing his true wiggly and goofy self. He showered his dad with nonstop hugs,” ACC said.

The shelter didn’t need any more proof. That reunion was enough.

Paperwork was signed, tails kept wagging, and soon Mecca Jr. was walking out of the shelter beside the human who loved him most.
