Detroit Officer Rescues Pit Bull Left Chained On Porch In Freezing Cold

A touching moment took place in Detroit when a police officer came to the rescue of a Pit Bull left freezing on a porch.

Officer Eric McCombs showed incredible kindness, stepping in without hesitation to save the stranded pup from the bitter cold.

While on patrol in the frigid cold, Officer Eric McCombs came across a pitiful sight—an emaciated dog left chained to a porch in -20°F windchill.

Without hesitation, he rushed to her aid.

When I went up to her, I was like, ‘This can’t be.’ I didn’t even think, I was just like, ‘I need to rescue this dog,’” Officer McCombs said to The Dodo.

The dog was not only cold but clearly hungry, eagerly eating the treats they offered. She had endured severe conditions and had frostbite on her ears, a reminder of her suffering.

We ended up having to take her to an animal shelter,” Officer McCombs said, still disturbed by the cruelty she had suffered.

A New Beginning With A Loving Hero

At the shelter, Officer McCombs couldn’t stop thinking about the dog he’d rescued. He knew she deserved more than just a kennel; she deserved a real home.

Soon, he made the decision to adopt her. Sweet Pea, as she was named, would forever have a safe and loving home.

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue shared: “One of the officers couldn’t stop thinking about her, so he reached out to us… She will be adopted by her hero… DPD Officer McCombs!

Despite already having a dog, McCombs knew he had to bring her into his life.

Double the food, double the vet, double whatever. I had to,” McCombs said.

Sweet Pea’s Transformation Into A Happy Pup

When Sweet Pea first arrived at her new home, she didn’t know how to be an indoor dog. She refused to jump on the couch or even eat peanut butter.

But with time, she adjusted and soon embraced the love and care she had always deserved.

Now, she lives her dream life, far from the streets of Detroit.

Officer McCombs doesn’t just stop at one rescue. He’s made it his mission to rescue dogs in need throughout Detroit, always going above and beyond for animals.

Why not rescue Pit Bulls and serve as a police officer simultaneously?” he asked, embodying his passion for both roles.
