Couple Adopts An Abandoned Pittie And Finds Out Something Surprising About His Breed

Koby, a sweet Pit Bull mix, had a rough start in life.

Separated from his mother when he needed her the most, he and his siblings were left outside a South Carolina shelter. Their breeders didn’t want them because they weren’t pure Pit Bulls.

Instead of staying warm and safe with their mom, the tiny pups huddled together in a cardboard box, waiting for kindness.

A Fresh Start

Shelter staff quickly stepped in to care for the puppies, but being in a kill shelter put them at risk.

Thankfully, Ollie’s Angels Animal Rescue, a New York-based non-profit, took them in, giving them a second chance at life.

That second chance came in 2021 when a newlywed couple, Steven and Jessica, visited the rescue, looking to adopt a dog.

As soon as they met Koby, a tan-colored pup with the sweetest eyes, they felt an instant connection.

“The first time we got to hold him, he just sunk in our arms,” Steven shared with GeoBeats Animals.

That same day, Koby left with them, heading to his forever home.

Adjusting To His New Life

At first, Koby struggled to settle in. He had trouble sleeping, missing the warmth of his mother.

Wanting to comfort him, his new parents got him a special stuffed animal with a heartbeat and warmth. It worked—Koby finally relaxed, feeling safe for the first time in a long time.

Koby turned out to be a cuddle-loving pup. He adored snuggling with his dad on the couch and never wanted to be apart from his humans.

Before adopting Koby, Steven had no idea Pit Bulls loved cuddling so much. Now, he and Jessica treated Koby like their own child, showering him with love.

Koby’s Special Bond With His Parents

Being separated from his mom so young left a lasting mark on Koby, but he found comfort in his new family. His love for his parents was unconditional.

During Jessica’s pregnancy, Koby became extra protective, always staying by her side. He often rested his head on her baby bump, as if making sure everything was okay.

Even though Koby adores his mom, his dad is his favorite person in the world.

Every day, he sits by the window, eagerly waiting for Steven to come home. The second he walks through the door, Koby runs to greet him with hugs and kisses.

For Steven, this daily welcome means everything.

“He’s become such an important part of my every day. If I have a tough day at work, it’s nice coming home to a beautiful wife, but it’s also nice coming home to somebody that you know is guaranteed gonna greet you with excitement and hugs and kisses,” he said.
