Determined to help, they named her Royal and rushed her to a veterinarian, who prescribed the necessary medications.

After her visit to the vet, Royal began her recovery journey by moving to a foster home.
Courtney, an experienced foster mom, stepped up to care for the emaciated and fragile pup.

Courtney began by giving her a soothing bath, introducing Royal to what seemed to be her first-ever experience of human affection.

Soon, Royal was wagging her little tail and enjoying cuddles with her foster mom.

“It was a crazy, crazy journey just to see her slowly come back to life,” Courtney said to The Dodo. “Two months to get her to a place where she was walking. It was another two months until she started to slowly regrow fur.“
Royal also gained strength and confidence from her new best friend, Shakes, Courtney’s dog.
“My dog, Shakes, would teach her how to wrestle and play with squeaky toys and the ball. You could see her learning and educating herself through another dog. It made her healthier and stronger,” Courtney shared.

Their bond flourished, and the duo loved exploring the beach, zooming around with joy, and snuggling at home.
Royal’s happiness began to radiate, and her playful bunny-like hops on the grass became her signature move.
A Forever Home Filled With Love
As Royal thrived, Courtney realized she couldn’t part with the pup who had captured her heart. She adopted Royal, giving her the forever home she deserved.
With her new name, Chicken, the once-fragile puppy transformed into a lively and loving companion.
