Sweet Chihuahua Returned To Shelter Because She Wanted To Sleep With Her Parents

Twinkle’s journey didn’t begin with love and comfort.

She had to go through heartbreak before finally finding the family she truly deserved.

Found Alone In The Streets

In June 2022, a sweet senior Chihuahua named Twinkle was found wandering the streets of Miami, Florida.

She was taken to True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission—a shelter that helps older and unwanted dogs from shelters with high euthanasia rates.

Poor Twinkle was in rough shape. She was too thin, had severe dental problems, a painful skin infection, and barely any fur left. On top of that, she needed surgery to remove mammary tumors.

Thankfully, her operation went well. Within a few weeks, she started to gain weight and feel much better.

Everyone at the shelter was hopeful—Twinkle was ready to begin her new life.

A Heartbreaking Return

In September 2022, Twinkle was adopted. Her new family seemed perfect, and the rescue team was thrilled. It looked like she had finally found her happy ending.

But just four months later, Twinkle was brought back to the shelter.

Her adoptive family gave her up because she wanted to sleep in their bed.

They had other older Chihuahuas too, and none of them were allowed on the bed either. That was the only reason they returned her.

When they brought her back, they handed her over the fence and walked away.

Twinkle didn’t understand. She stared through the fence, watching them leave. Her tiny heart was crushed.

“Twinkle was beyond devastated and confused. I remember walking [into] the main dog room to see she was sitting in the corner on a dog bed, closed off and shaking with fear. She looked at you with such confusion on her face and pain in her heart,” shared Madison Mulvihill, social media coordinator at True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission.

Twinkle wasn’t a difficult dog. She was gentle, cuddly, and just wanted to be loved. The rescue team couldn’t believe anyone would give her up for wanting closeness.

“Twinkle is not only just adorable, but she has the biggest personality despite being only 3-and-a-half pounds. She loves attention and is not afraid to approach you when she wants to be loved. She is so joyful, and has the cutest little hops when she treads through the grass at the ranch,” Madison Mulvihill added.

The team decided to share her story on TikTok, hoping that someone out there would see Twinkle and give her the second chance she deserved.

A Happy New Beginning

Their efforts worked. Twinkle’s video touched the hearts of people all over the world, and the rescue received tons of adoption applications.

One special family drove from South Carolina to meet her—and it was a perfect match.

Twinkle now has six furry siblings, a king-size bed, and the freedom to sleep beside her parents anytime she wants.

At last, Twinkle has the love and care she always dreamed of. She’s home now, with a family that treasures her for who she is.
