Blind Puppy And Death Row Mama Finally Find A Furever Home

In a local kill shelter, a pregnant dog named Arizona was up next on the kill list, and everything seemed over for her.

This is where Texas dog rescuer Alex Wildee stepped in, and saved the future mommy-dog.

The Rescue Mission

This tale begins with Alex Wildee, a woman renowned for her dedication to rescuing special shelter dogs.

Her latest mission led her to a Texas shelter, where she found Arizona, a pregnant Catahoula mix next up on the euthanasia list.

Wildee’s timely intervention offered Arizona a second chance.

Shortly after being rescued, while waiting for the adoption process to be finished, Arizona gave birth to five puppies!

The Odd One Out

Among the litter was Dakota, the runt, whose early days were full of challenges.

Not progressing like his siblings, Dakota required extra care, which Alex Wildee provided through nights of diligent bottle-feeding.

This dedication paid off, nurturing Dakota into a stronger and healthier puppy.

However, as he grew, Wildee noticed Dakota’s unique hurdles; he was vision impaired, perceiving only light and shadows, and possibly deaf. Yet, these limitations did not deter his vibrant spirit.

Dakota’s Strong Spirit

Dakota’s zest for life was palpable. His playful nature and intelligence shone through as he navigated life alongside his siblings, not limited by his physical constraints.

“He is such a happy playful puppy and keeps up just fine with his siblings!” Wildee observed.

His cleverness was particularly highlighted when he became the first to escape the puppy pen, despite his bad vision.

A Search for a Forever Home

As the puppies reached the age for adoption through Circle 2 Rescue, Dakota’s siblings quickly found homes, leaving him the sole pup without prospective adopters.

Even though he was clearly a playful pup, full of energy, Dakota’s special needs seemed to deter potential families.

Wildee, ever hopeful, knew that somewhere out there was the perfect match for this extraordinary puppy.

“He’s a silly happy boy and I know his perfect people are out there looking for him,” she stated, encouraging support through sharing his story.

The Power of Community

The call to find Dakota a home was met with an overwhelming response from the iHeartDogs community.

Shares and support flooded in, casting a wide net of hope for Dakota. It wasn’t long before the perfect family, drawn to Dakota’s resilience and charm, emerged.

Dakota’s new dad felt a profound connection to the pup, as he saw the Facebook post. Being partially blind himself, he knew right away that Dakota was the perfect pup for him.

The new family was living out of state, but they took the journey to Denver to adopt the pup, and to welcome him into their lives.

Happy Endings All Around

The story could have ended happily with Dakota finding his forever home.

But Arizona, the once death-row brave mother who started it all, also found her own loving family.

She’s now living a life full of joy with her new parents, her dark days now long gone from memory.
